Coal Pit
Established in 2006, Coal Pit is a boutique, family-owned vineyard in Central Otago, producing world-class wines from our certified organic, single-site estate. Nestled on the warm, north-facing slopes of Gibbston, our vineyard thrives in one of New Zealand’s most extreme and beautiful wine regions.
The name Coal Pit honours the area’s history, where early pioneers sourced coal from nearby mountain ranges. Our flagship Pinot Noir, ‘Tiwha’, is a tribute to founder Rosie’s late father. From vine to bottle, everything happens on-site—handpicked, handcrafted, and shaped by the dramatic landscape we call home.
